Warm and Cozy Coat

The past couple days have been cold and rainy in DC. I love Fall clothes but no so much being cold. Having completely worn out my old coat I'm in the market for a new one. Buying a new coat is no small purchase considering you wear it everyday in Winter and it's got to be of pretty good quality to keep you warm. I have already professed my love for the Anthropologie Deep Woods Toggle coat which is helping me figure out what I want. Let's take a look at the options:

Antler Magazine

Antler is a daily blog and a bi-monthly online magazine out of Canada. It focuses on art, literature, fashion, design and culture with a bohemian flair and an appreciation for the natural world. Expect to find enchanting images, indie designer/artist profiles and fashion spreads. As much as I love reading the printed word, publishing online is carbon-neutral after all. It's just all very pretty.

Boho Magazine

Created by Gina La Morte of The Style Doctor, Boho is decidedly more mainstream. It's filled with tips for green fashion, beauty and living. Live the life you want. Express yourself through fashion. Do something to make the world a better place. Also, it's printed in 100% recycled paper.

Dazed and Confused

Not the movie, the magazine (although I could style myself after that movie for the rest of my life). Dazed and Confused is British print publication with a thriving online (Dazed Digital) presence. You'll find impossibly cool fashion, photography, music and arts/culture coverage with blogs, video and round-the-clock reporting online. The Brits are always so cutting edge. There is endless goodness to be found here.

Love the Manimals

I have been a longtime fan of the work on Manimal, the creation of designer Kristen Lombardi of Brooklyn, New York. She recycles and reworks her materials to create these hand made creations inspired by the crafts of the American Southwest. I don't know if it was watching Clan of the Cave Bear as a child or what but I'm a girl that loves a moccasin. I first discovered Ashley Watson's bags on a recent trip to Wilmington, NC. They were so soft and beautiful that I made a mental note to look her up when I got home. Based in Vancouver, she creates one-of-a-kind bags and walled from recycled leather. I admire her talent for design and eco-friendly approach to production. Her use of recycled leather give her bags they're unique and lived in feel.

At Emersonmade you can find the coolest handmade flower accessories. Each piece is dyed, cut and stitched by hand. I love her photos which she styles herself. Her cute personality and amazing personal style really shine through. 

I must get one of her pretty flowers for myself. I think her Fiery Big Wild Rose is perfect for the fall.

Style + Grace

I saw The September Issue over the weekend and I realized Vogue Creative Director Grace Coddington is the reason I've been reading it all these years. My favorite scene is when Grace riding around Paris and talks about how she learned to always keep her eyes open because one never knows where inspiration will come from. While she over looks a beautiful garden you can see this true artist getting inspired. I admire her so much. She is such a classy lady.

The Gypset

Isn't it everyone's fantasy to a bohemian world traveller living an unconventional life by your own rules? Roaming the globe with no particular destination in amazing clothes picked up at exotic locations? Sleeping in yurts or houseboats under a sea of stars with perpetually perfect beach hair? It is mine. I even named my cute little dog Gypsy. 

Julia Chaplin is a freelance journalist based out of New York who coined the term Gypset (gypsy + jet-set) to define a new type a travel and the people who are lucky enough to have that lifestyle. Her new coffee table book, Gypset style published by Assouline, features beautiful photographs and profiles of the gypsetters and touches on the progression of the movement. Some of those featured in the book include the Mignot sisters (I'll write more on them later), Jade Jagger, Devendra Banhart and Alice Temperley.
